Google Ads for remodeling contractors

Remodeling is the hardest lead-gen category to run badly and survive. Long sales cycles, huge tickets and dreamers with no budget mean the whole job is qualification, not volume.

No sales call required. WhatsApp, text, email or the form — written answers only.

How customers in this market actually search

A kitchen remodel enquiry can be worth $60,000 or worth nothing at all, and the query itself rarely tells you which. Someone typing ‘kitchen remodel cost’ might be six weeks from signing or eighteen months from thinking about it seriously. That gap is why remodeling accounts either look brilliant on lead volume and fail on revenue, or produce a handful of leads a month that all close.

The winning approach is to qualify inside the funnel rather than at the appointment. Budget ranges on the landing page, minimum project sizes stated openly, and campaigns split by room and by scope. It feels like you are turning people away. You are — and it is the reason your sales time stops evaporating on estimates that were never going to happen.

The campaigns worth separating

These are the splits that usually matter in remodeling. Each one deserves its own budget, because a shared budget always drifts toward whatever converts most cheaply — which is rarely what pays you best.

  • Kitchen remodeling, usually the highest-intent and most competitive segment
  • Bathroom remodeling, faster cycle and easier to qualify
  • Whole-home renovation, low volume and very high value
  • Additions and ADUs, where permitting questions dominate the research phase
  • Basement finishing, strongly regional in demand
  • Aging-in-place and accessibility work, an underpriced niche in most metros

Negative keywords from day one

Every remodeling account we build launches with a negative list, and it grows every week from the search terms report. A starting point for this trade:

This is a fraction of a real list. Mature accounts in this category typically carry several hundred negatives, most of them discovered from actual search terms rather than guessed in advance.

Timing and seasonality

Remodeling research clusters in the new year and again in late summer, with contracts signing weeks or months later. Because of that lag, judging a remodeling account after thirty days is close to meaningless — the enquiries generated in month one are often still in the pipeline in month three. We set expectations on a ninety-day minimum and report pipeline value, not just lead count.

What counts as a conversion here

Counting form fills in remodeling is actively misleading. What we track instead is the step after: consultation booked, in-home estimate completed, proposal sent, contract signed. Feeding proposal and contract data back into Google as offline conversions is not a nice-to-have in this vertical — it is the only way the platform learns the difference between a serious homeowner and someone collecting inspiration.

What the landing page needs

Paid traffic in this category should not land on a homepage. The page that receives the click needs, at minimum:

  • A stated minimum project budget, which saves more sales hours than anything else
  • Real project galleries with locations and rough price bands
  • Process and timeline explained, because uncertainty is the main objection
  • Financing options, which materially expand who can say yes
  • Design credentials, licensing and warranty terms

We build these when the existing site cannot carry the traffic — it is the one design service we offer, precisely because the campaign depends on it.

The mistakes we see most often in remodeling accounts

  • Optimising for cheap leads, which in remodeling means optimising for browsers
  • Hiding the price range and then complaining that estimates never close
  • Judging the channel at thirty days, before the first contracts have signed
  • One campaign for kitchens, baths, basements and additions together

There is no phone number to call on this website, and that is deliberate. Everything happens over WhatsApp, text message, email or the contact form. You get written answers you can re-read, forward to a partner and hold us to — instead of a forty-minute discovery call you have to schedule two weeks out.

When something is genuinely easier shown than written, we send a short screen recording or a voice note you can watch whenever it suits you.

What we would do first

The order the work happens in.

  • Week 1: free written audit of the account or the market
  • Week 1: conversion tracking rebuilt so a lead means a lead
  • Week 1–2: campaigns split by value and urgency, negatives loaded, ads written
  • Week 2: controlled launch on a limited budget
  • Week 3 onward: weekly search term work and a written Monday report
Straight answers

Who owns the account?

You do. Built under your billing, and everything stays with you if you leave.

What does it cost?

$899 a month for management, published on the pricing page. Your ad spend goes directly to Google.

How long am I tied in?

Month to month, thirty days’ notice, no exit fee.

Will you tell me if this is a bad fit?

Yes, in the audit, before you have paid anything.

Questions from remodeling owners

How long before remodeling ads pay for themselves?

Plan on ninety days minimum, and understand that leads from month one may sign in month three. Anyone promising signed contracts in three weeks in this vertical is either lucky or misleading you.

Should I really put my minimum budget on the website?

In our experience yes, and it is the single highest-leverage change most remodelers can make. You lose enquiries and gain hours. A page that says ‘most of our kitchens run $45,000 to $90,000’ filters out the people who were never going to sign.

What if I only want kitchens?

Then the account should only run kitchens, with everything else in the negative list. Narrow is an advantage here, not a limitation — specialists convert better and can charge more.
